saturday nice...

...dinner with friends at home!

the table decoration is actually quite simple. a silhouette of knife and fork (from internet large-scale copied) carried over on a black adhesive foil and cut out. cut also the placemat out of the foil. clean the table very well (no crumbs, no fat), then stick everything on it.

for the menu cards, copy the silhouette and print the four-course meal beside (best of all in a bright, friendly color...a vibrant contrast to the black).
put the menu cards in simple paper sandwich bags, which were stuck before all around with an inscription. add a white cloth napkin and the flatware. now arrange everything on the table..some grass and small glasses with tea lights in addition...mission dinner table completed.

a recipe...
...you gotta try... from jamie olivers food magazin... lemon ripple tart...oh- soooooo yummy!

lemon ripple tart

in just one bite of this you get soft lemony filling, crumbly pastry, and a bite of caramelised sugar. heaven.

1. For the pastry, sieve the flour and icing sugar onto a surface, then use your fingers to gently work in the butter till you have ‘crumbs’. Sprinkle in the zest, then gradually add the egg mixture till you get a ball of dough. Dust this with flour, flatten slightly, then wrap in clingfilm and chill for about 30 minutes.
2. Grease a loose-bottomed 28cm tart tin. Dust a clean surface and a rolling pin with flour and roll the pastry into a circle that’s 5mm thick and big enough to line the tart tin. Lightly press the pastry into the tin, trim off any excess, then cover with clingfilm and put in the freezer for at least an hour.
3. Preheat the oven to 180C/gas 4. Unwrap the tart case, line it with greaseproof paper, then fill with rice or dried beans. Bake the pastry in the middle of the oven for 10 minutes, then remove the paper and baking beans and return to the oven for about 15 minutes or until light brown.
4. For the filling, put the yolks, eggs, sugar, vanilla seeds and lemon juice and zest into a heavy-bottomed pan; whisk over a very low heat until the mixture starts to thicken. Stir in the butter, making sure you get all the bits of curd from the bottom of the pan. When it looks like really thick custard and coats the back of a spoon, take it off the heat and let it cool a little. Give it a whisk, then strain through a sieve.
5. Mash the raspberries with the sugar in a small pan. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring continuously, until it starts to look like jam.
6. Spoon the lukewarm lemon curd into the tart and give it a shake so that the mixture spreads. Spoon the raspberry jam over the lemon and gently stir it to create a ripple effect. Cool the tart for 30 minutes. If you like, dust the top with a layer of icing sugar and caramelise it with a kitchen blowtorch.

time to design!

today I made a great find at the supermarket ... in a way a designer piece!
between the kitchen accessories I came across a white plastic "cake cooler"... after a closer look...it was crystal clear! the cake cooler is actually no cake cooler, but as a "wolf in sheep's clothing", quite a cool design wall clock... of course!
look, how simple this transformation works!

man nehme...

take...
exactly that cake cooler (zenker by www.fackelmann.com) and a clockwork with long watch hands (e.g. www.amazon.com).
now, shorten carefully the plastic bars along the inside with a sharp cutter...otherwise the clockwork doesn't fit behind!
drill a center hole...fix the clockwork and a hook to hang up... choose a suitable wall (it should be a colored wall - if you don't have one and even don't want one, lacquer the clock in any color)...hang up and be entirely happy!

noa's bedside cabinet...

birthday presents always should be something special... at best, selfmade with lots of love. therefor you have to take time and that points out, how much the presentee means to you.
is there a better present?
today, it's about my dearest godchild noa and her birthday. the idea was a bedside cabinet... she could really use it. an antique, baroque one would be perfect... but unfortunately, in a hurry I couldn't find one... now we're going to plan b!
ikea has a plain, white cabinet...

now, search for a nice pattern...in this case, folkloric flowers looking very pretty, and shop the matching colors (I chose 2x caribbean acrylic paint no.147, 225ml of marabu/ light green, orange, medium blue, cherry red, medium yellow, pink acryl decor lacquer 15ml of marabu and acryl clear lacquer glossy)
first of all, lacquer all components with a paint roller. next, draw the pattern on the door (best, sketch it out with a pencil) and finally, varnish all parts with the clear lacquer...

...fertig ist das süße geburtstags-nachtschränkchen!
happy birthday, noa!
... the sweet little birthday-bedside cabinet is done!
happy birthday, noa!

ps. of course, you can also pimp other items of furniture...what about a wardrobe for a child's room? simply pick a nice fabric, cut it to size, stick the edging with contact glue (clearly) on the wardrobe and finally, fix a matching ribbon on the glued area (use special glue for fabrics). add a fresh couple of colored doorknobs... voilà, the new wardrobe!

pink is pink is pink...

when I was a little girl, I always passed a tiny store on my way to school. one day, shortly before carnival, I saw a wonderful pink "bling bling" princess dress in the shopwindow. it was love at first sight! literally, my eyes were glued to the window pane, and I dreamt myself into this pink tulle and velvet dream. oh, yes, I saw it exactly in my mind's eye... going up the stairway in school, full of pride and grace, and all clowns, cowboys and showgirls, holding their breath , staring at my pink robe and with a sense of jealousy and disappointment with their own costume, they have tears in their eyes. yes, this would be my 15 min of fame like andy warhol said!
how shall I put it? in the end... I became an indian!

who knows, maybe the fact that I couldn't live my girl's dream 30 years ago, is the reason that I still adore pink!
today, my daughter has a wonderful pink "bling bling" princess dress... and when she comes down the stairs, full pride and grace, I have tears in my eyes... and I sigh: "pink... oh, how beautiful"!

PINK IST EIN FLIRT:
BEI BLAU BLEIBT ES
COOL, BEI WEISS
WIRD ES ZÄRTLICH,
GELB MACHT IHM
WARM, ROT HEIZT ES
AN, SCHWARZ LÄSST

MIT ORANGE TANZT
ES ROCK 'N' ROLL...

back to the future

...a brilliant artwork of photographer irina werning. the photos are fascinating and captivating. not only the simple comparison "before-after" is so exciting...I like the hidden poetry...the ravages of time and life...and the humor!

“I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future.” – Irina Werning

old macdonald had a farm...

the order of today was clearing out the cowshed, combing ponies, feeding pigs and hugging chickens... this weekend belonged to my son and his 9th birthday... with glorious, sunny weather, we spent the day on a farm! a picture-perfect day (... apart from a broken tooth, a bout of hayfever and a chatty android on the back seat of my car on the way home!)
