warm up...

...with some serious winter goodies today!

this selfmade chai latte!
... trust me, it's divine!


3 cups water

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, peeled and grated

6 cardamom pods, crushed in mortar and pestle

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder

2 pinches fresh grated nutmeg

6 pieces star anise

8 black peppercorns

1 1/2 cup milk

assam or darjeeling tea- 6 teaspoons of loose tea, or 6 tea bags

sugar, as desired ( I like to add a couple of tablespoons of coconut sugar into the spice mixture)

optional for serving: cinnamon stick and star anise


place water, ginger cardamom, cinnamon powder, nutmeg, star anise and black peppercorns in a medium sauce pan over medium high heat.

when the liquid comes to boil, add milk. let everything return to a boil. then add tea and simmer for 1 minute.

pour your chai through a strainer into a clean bowl or a metal pitcher. then pour the chai back into a clean pot/ bowl. if you continue to pour the chai back and forth like this a few times, you will froth the milk a bit- thus the "latte".

pre-x-mas gift...

...ja, ist denn schon weihnachten?
nein, aber höchste zeit diesem ollen werbespruch hier und jetzt mal ein bisschen leben einzuhauchen!
könnt ihr euch vorstellen, dass diese schönheit aus dem midcentury (..."durch und durch teak, jawohl!" *anmerkung der stolzen redaktion), ein gewöhnliches straßenmädchen war. jaja, würde man nicht denken, ist aber so!
mein mann hat sie im dunkeln auf der straße, gleich neben dem sperrmüll, aufgegabelt und mit nach hause geschleppt...dafür hat er natürlich nur lob und einen extra dicken kuss von mir erhalten (...operante konditionierung)
drei stunden schleifen und ...einen tusch, bitte ... aus dem leichten mädchen wurde ne echte lady... überzeugt euch selbst!

ps. ...nach dieser glücklichen vorweihnachtsbescherung war ich irgendwie in geberlaune und hab meinem teakhocker so mir nichts dir nichts ein neues outfit spendiert...fazit: alle gepflegt und glücklich!


...is it x-mas already? ...no, but trust me, it exactly seems like it!
can you belive that previously this midcen treasure (..."solid teak, yup!" *just for the record) was a plain-looking street girl? no? ...you better believe it!
my husband found her in the streets just beside the bulk trash and dragged her up into our house...in return he received praise and a big kiss (...operant conditioning)
three hours sanding and ...drumroll, please... the easy girl became a real lady...check it out!

ps. ...after this happy pre-x-mas surprise I was somehow in a generous mood and just like that bought my teak stool a brandnew outfit...result: all neat and happy!

folgende situation: es ist herbst und täglich laufen mir die dicksten kürbisse über den weg...gut, wenn sie schon mal da sind, können sie auch bleiben-- aber bitte mit manieren...orange kann ja jeder!

the situation is as follows: it's fall and the largest pumpkins crossing my path every day...well, they're already there, so they allowed to stay-- but please in a good manner...rather self-made than orange shade!

pin-o-fant

...ist für heute mein lieblingswort!

...diesen entzückenden kleinen helfer habe ich mir heute schnell zusammengebastelt...aus einem indischen schleich elefanten, einem schaumstoff ball und viel glitzer-kram...ja, und heraus kam nicht nur das perfekte nadelkissen, sondern auch die dringend nötige aufheiterung beim manchmal leider notwendigen nähen, welches ich in der tat und ohne pin-o-fant überhaupt nicht leiden kann!

...I created this little cute assistant...made of an indian toy elephant, a softball and a lot glitter...yes, and it became not only the perfect pin cushion, but also the badly needed cheering up when sewing is absolutely necessary...because needlework suck...without my pin-o-fant!

take a toy elephant, wrap fabric around the softball and add glitter, glitter glitter...

and some indian painting!

...ha, das sollte mal als hübsch erfolgreiches wochenende durchgehen! ENDLICH habe ich den lang ersehnten vintage union jack gefunden. schön oll...neu kann ja jeder...gespickt mit einer ordentlichen ladung historie. er wurde in den 90ern aus der britischen botschaft in bonn gerettet...als sich alle feige nach berlin verdrückt haben (...ok, just kidding!) 

nun hängt er schick in unserem flur und spielt stolz vorhang...gelernt ist gelernt!

...ha, this should qualify as a very successful weekend! FINALLY found the eagerly awaited vintage union jack. pretty old...new is an easy lay...riddled with a great bunch of history....as it was retrieved from the british embassy in bonn in the 90s, after everybody popped off (...to berlin!)

so now, fancy hanging in our hallway, it proudly becomes a curtain... once learned never forgotten!

unsanft hat es mich zurück in die heimischen sphären katapultiert und betrübt habe ich fehlende tuk-tuks, wellen-wogen...schildkröten, currys, buddhas, palmen, five o'clock teas, mango-crumbles, monsun-unwetter, tempel, tempelelefanten, sonnenbäder....und noch unendlich viel mehr...zur kenntnis genommen. gott, wie ich sri lanka vermisse...! ich überlege ernsthaft eine weile dort zu leben...mal sehen, ich schlaf drüber und überleg noch mal...vielleicht fällt mir was schlaues ein!

bis dahin geht das leben natürlich weiter und deshalb kam mir der kleine ausflug nach den haag prima gelegen...und ein paar schicke bilder hab ich auch mitgebracht...bitte sehr! 

well, I'm brought down to earth with a bang...back at home I sadly notice the missing tuk-tuks, big waves...turtles, curries, buddahs, palm trees, five o'clock teas, mango-crumbles, monsoon-rains, temples, temple elephants, sun baths...and endless more! oh god, I really miss sri lanka! seriously I'm thinking of moving there for a while...let's see and consult my pillow upon that...I'll think of something clever later!
by then life is going on and that's why a little trip to the hague came in handy...and certainly I brought a few neat pics for you...here you go!
