coffee table stories...

...a coffee table book selection of my current favorites...they all have something in common...
great pics, bright colors, bohemian life...far away from "run-of-the-mill", art, passion and soulfulness.
it's a great joy to get into this extraordinary stories and photos!

 my beloved edie...
every few month, I simply need to watch "the beales of grey gardens"  on dvd ...little edie and big edie are so lovable and adorable crazy.
the storybook ist quite expensive...but it's worth it!

Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens: A Life in Pictures

"Edith “Little Edie” Bouvier Beale (1917-2002) is best known for her appearance in the critically acclaimed 1975 film Grey Gardens, a documentary by Albert and David Maysles that explored the reclusive lives of Beale and her mother “Big Edie,” the first cousin and aunt of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, respectfully. Over the past three decades, the film and its eccentric stars have become cult icons, inspiring fashion tributes by the likes of Phillip Lim and John Galliano, a hit Broadway musical adaptation that swept up three Tony Awards in 2007, and an upcoming HBO movie starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange as the famed odd couple.
Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens: A Life in Pictures, presents the most in-depth look at the life of Little Edie since the Maysles’ film vaulted her into the public consciousness. Conceived by members of the Beale family, the book traces a line from Edie’s childhood through her heady days as a young socialite and her later years at Grey Gardens, the decrepit East Hampton estate where she and her mother lived in near-total isolation for decades. Featuring over 150 newly uncovered photographs and letters, Edith Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens offers unprecedented access to the personal history of this twentieth-century woman of mystery. frida kahlo ist die namensgeberin meiner tochter...ich liebe ihr werk und die farben mexicos!

frida kahlo is the name giver of my daughter...I love her work and I love the colors of mexico!

I Will Never Forget You: Frida Kahlo and Nickolas Muray

"In the '30s and '40s, photographer Nickolas Muray was Frida Kahlo's friend, lover, and confidante. He continually photographed her over the course of their relationship, creating dozens of iconic portraits. Largely unpublished until now, the images reflect Muray's love of his subject. An early adopter of color photography, he could hardly have wished for a more vibrant and compelling model. Having made self-portrait the key topic of her existential paintings, Kahlo staged herself before Muray's camera with the same virtuosity she brought to bear on her own paintings—in traditional costumes, heavy jewelry, and hairstyles replete with flowers—and the portraits became a joint endeavor tantamount to a record of performance art. I Will Never Forget You tells the story of their relationship in image and word, drawing on the pair's poignant correspondence and artistic collaboration to paint a fresh portrait of a most beloved artist." The New Gypsies - Hardcover by Iain Mckell

"Photographer Iain McKell offers an extraordinary and breathtakingly beautiful glimpse into the lives of a real and raw group of present-day nomads whose culture is built around ideals of freedom, nature, and simplicity. Historically despised the new Gypsies are there by choice, not heritage. Unrelated to the Roma, the movement began in 1986 when a group of Post-Punk Anti-Thatcher protesters headed out of London into the English countryside. McKell followed these New Age Travellers to the West Country and over the years he watched them become a hybrid tribe - the new gypsies - present-day rural anarchists, living the subversive lifestyle in elaborately decorated horse-drawn caravans. Known as 'Horse-drawn', the new gypsies share a desire for sustainability, a love of self-reliance and a disdain for the trappings of contemporary life. For more than a decade McKell has focused his lens on travellers of all ages: parents, children, couples and loners. With sensitivity and honesty he captures a way of life that seems at once romantic, strange, beautiful and simple. The result is a deeply insightful portrayal of a culture that eschews the traditional creature comforts of urban life in favour of the simplicity and freedom of the natural world." (amazon.com)

loveHome...sweden!

at the skerry coast, south of stockholm, our timber cottage is locaded on a small peninsula! two years ago we bought it quite spontaneously...with love and passion, my sweetheart and I did a good renovation job... it became our oasis, our hideaway... our piece of jewellery... see round the house, and share our joy of living...

the livingroom is not large at all, but nevertheless, we created a generous space... the discreet pieces of furniture in earthy colors are the perfect backdrop for many colorful accents. my beloved crochet cover, it keeps me perfectly warm in the cool of the evening, is a dirt-cheap flea marked find. the extraordinary fabric on the wall, is designed by sanna annukka from finland (http://www.sanna-annukka.com/home/)... the luminous colors and folkloric circles put you into good humor and give the sofa corner a bright, happy look. the children love to play on the floor with their toy animals or to dance around wildly...abba music (honestly!) in the background.

good food...the enticing smell of delicacy, a nicely covered table, hospitality... we always try to create something special for our meals (even if the kids become mutinous sometime...however, from time to time, pizza with gummy bears are alright!). we always have fresh herbs and fragrant flowers on the table... salmon, blackberry juice, crispbread and all possible variations of tea!

our fireplace room emerged, because we had to build up an additional wall, to create a child's room. first we thought, that it's only a walk-through room...however, the great chimney, the snug rocker and the shelf, filled with fascinating books, invite us to stay. rudi, the stag, is a family friend and the watchdog. he alway keeps an eye on our house, when we're not around. on a wonderful day in amsterdam on a flea market, he came to me and since then, he never wanted to leave... rudi, we love you!

the bedroom is divine... in there, we search for rest and recreation... and of course, for sleep. I surround myself only with things, which I really adore or which mean a lot to me... that makes me feel good! the  madonna figure is a present from my husband... and this is quite something special, because actually, I choose the furniture and everything what belongs to it (...not so bad, right!?)however, our top favorite is the oculus...when we snuggle down in our bed, watching the sky and the trees... dreaming and falling into a deep sound sleep!

I love children's room and everything what belongs to it! the magic of playing... a world, to which only children have access to. bright, happy and chaotic, that's how it is (...yes, of course I have cleared up the room before shooting, and no, usually it doesn't look like this...!) the antique school desk was a great catch. it fits exactly into the small corner. you can lift up the tabletop and stow lots of stuff in it. I bought it at an internet auction and gave it a repaint. additionally, the chair got a nice pattern...everybody is happy about it! in the evening, I spend my favorite quality time with the kids... we relaxe, talk about our day and look at nice storybooks... magic!

details are that extra something... without them, a room is just a room and not a home! I'm always taking much care of details...actually, I planned to remove the old garden lamp in the entrance. nevertheless, after I had overcoated the zinc case with a belgian grey-fawn and replaced the yellow, curved glass windows with satin glass, I thought that the contrast to the modern cloakroom is so exciting and successful, that ever since I fell in love with it.

... make us happy.
in summer, when days seem endless, we listen to birdsong and sneak up on deers. the water lures with swimming and boating and in the evening we catch the missing fish for the grill. the kids use their imagination...with salt on their skin and rosy cheeks, they play corner shop on the street and gather stones, branches and berries. with a glass of sweet red wine in my hand and a smile on my face, I enjoy life... and wish, it would be always like this!
winter is clear and frosty... the icy wind brings tears in our eyes. we go skiing, building igloo-castles and shoveling our way through the snow. inside, the crackling ingel ... we watch the fire and feel the desired heat. huddling against each other, we spend the long evenings together... thinking of the next snowballfight...a swedish winter dream come true...we're happy campers!
