queensday...am 30. april (falls der ein sonntag sein sollte, wird es auf den 29. verschoben) ist in den niederlanden queensday.
1889 wurde er erstmals am 31.august, als "prinzessinnentag" anlässlich des geburtstages von prinzessin wilhelmina gefeiert. ab 1890 wurde er offiziell zum königinnentag ernannt und 1949 auf den 30. april, den geburtstag von königin juliane, verlegt. seitdem sind die niederlande an diesem tag in einem orangen ausnahmezustand.
letztes jahr habe ich den queensday in amsterdam erlebt und das hat mir bestätigt, was ich sowieso schon wußte ...die holländer haben's einfach drauf. sie sind entspannt, kreativ, fröhlich und fühlen sich in allem was orange ist pudelwohl.
die ganze innenstadt wird zum flohmarkt und zur partymeile. die wunderschönen grachtenhäuser öffnen ihre fenster und türen, man trifft freunde, verkauft den halben hausrat und trinkt kaffee, cocktails oder bier auf den stufen. die kinder laufen umher und die straßen bekommen den charme einer wilden jahrmarktsbühne.
am morgen schippern die ersten boote die grachten entlang, die menschen freuen sich, lachen ausgelassen und winken jedem, der es sehen möchte.
zum mittag hin ist aus den wasserstraßen ein bebender, oranger techno-teppich geworden...nichts geht mehr und alle gehen mit!

in 1889 it started with the celebration of the birthday of princess wilhelmina on august 31th, called "princess day". from 1890 it was officially called "queen's day" and in 1949 it was moved to april 30th, the birthday of queen juliane. since then, the netherlands celebrating this day with passion and exuberance.
last year, I spent queensday in amsterdam and this confirmed what I already knew... the dutch are simply jivey. they are relaxed, creative, cool and feel fit as a fiddle in orange.
the whole city becomes a flea market and boisterous party. the wonderful canal houses open up the windows and doors, you meet friends, sell half of your household items and drink coffee, cocktails or beer on the steps. the children run around and the streets radiate the charme of a fairground stage.
in the morning the first boats slowly gliding along the canals, the people are happy, feeling frisky and waving to everybody who would like to see it.
around lunchtime, the waterway becomes a shaken, orange techno-carpet...there is no way forward, but everybody is comming along!

am besten gleich jetzt eine unterkunft suchen...zum queensday ist nämlich alles booked!

ps. ein super tipp zum schluss. geht am morgen des queensdays, bevor die party so richtig in gang kommt, nochmal in euer lieblingsmuseum...rijksmuseum, anne frank haus, egal...alles ist so wunderbar leer, wie sonst nie!
pss. falls ihr es nicht zum queensday schaffen solltet...das land der tulpen, pommes,
flipje vlas, windmühlen, antiquitäten, designs und und und, ist immer eine reise wert!
